Yamaha India has introduced the MT-15 in India. This model will sit above the FZ16 that was launched recently with ABS. In fact, if you look at the price proposition, the motorcycle sits square with the FZ250. Speaking of which, the Yamaha MT-15 price in India is Rs 1.36 lakh, ex-showroom pan-India. Bookings had begun a weeks back at Rs 21,000 while deliveries will start from today.
What’s the deal with the new Yamaha MT-15?
This motorcycle can be called the naked version of the YZF-R15. The Yamaha MT-15 in fact looks closer to the much bigger MT-09. Just look at those headlights. It’s a triple pod thing and is an all-LED ensemble. The instrument cluster too is all-digital. However, this MT-15 isn’t the same model that was unveiled globally last year internationally. To keep costs in check, this one misses out on the upside down forks and aluminum swingarm. Instead it gets conventional forks as well as a box section swingarm.
The clip on handle bars from the R15 have been replaced here with a flatter handle bar. This one focuses more on touring and commuting. Hence the rider’s triangle borders more on the relaxed side of things. There are disc brakes on both ends with single channel ABS roped in.
Powering the MT-15 is the same tractable motor from the R15. This means a 155cc engine that is capable of 19.3PS and 14.7Nm. Yamaha says that it has tuned the ECU to be more responsive in the lower and mid-end. The rear sprocket tooth has been increased to 52 from the 48 in the R15. The gearbox is a 6-speed unit and comes with a slip and assist clutch. The motorcycle ships with MRF tyres and will not come with optional rear Metzeler unit. No Daytona aftermarket exhaust this available as well.
