Yamaha has started rolling out its BS-VI line-up in India. The first motorcycle out of the lot is the bread and butter FZ. The new Yamaha FZ BS-VI price in India starts from Rs 99,200. This is a steep increase of Rs 7,000 over the BS-IV model. The model will be available in showrooms in a few days time. Deliveries will start from end-November. The FZS-FI will have two new additional colors, Darknight and Metallic Red along with the regular palette. The older BS-IV models will continue till stocks last.
I guess the engine is new in the Yamaha FZ BS-VI…
The engine is the older 149cc unit from the BS-IV model. However, the carb has been replaced by a fuel injector as standard. The compression ratio has gone down by a bit. The FZ still makes 12.4PS of power and 13.6Nm of torque. While the power is down by nearly 1PS while the torque is up by 0.8Nm. Yamaha has persisted with the 5-speed gearbox. Expect a bump in fuel efficiency too. The peak power too arrives a bit early.
Apart from this, there are minor changes including the Fi indicator as standard for all the models. The FZ received an update earlier this year and got a negative LCD instrument cluster. It’s styling too now mimics that of the bigger 250. A front wheel ABS was also introduced at that point of time too and it continues. The FZ continues with its telescopic front suspension and a rear monoshock.
The new Yamaha FZ will continue to compete with the Pulsar NS160 and Apache RTR 160. It is likely that the FZ may not be outright powerful now but it still will be more rideable in town than on the highway. Here is a full list of the prices of the new Yamaha FZ BS-VI.
