You know the TVS NTorq and the fact that it was the first ever two-wheeler that we reviewed at AutoAlive. We liked the scooter back then but then the goal post has moved ever since. To get back in the groove, TVS has launched a more affordable version of the NTorq. The TVS NTorq drum brake variant price in India is Rs 61,662, ex-Mumbai. It is about Rs 3,000 more affordable than the front disc unit. Dispatches have already started and bookings too have begun. Deliveries will commence within the next two weeks. The colour palette also remains the same as before.
What are the changes in the TVS NTorq drum brake variant?
There is a 130mm drum brake in the front now. TVS has also chosen to remove the engine kill switch, underseat light and USB charging slot. The fully digital instrument console as well as the LED daytime running lights have been retained. TVS has also made no changes to the 9.5PS and 10.5Nm, 125cc, air-cooled, 3-valve engine and variomatic transmission.
While no exact weight numbers are available, the omission of certain aforementioned features will definitely have reduced the mass of the scooter. The disc-equipped version weighs 116kg, expect the drum version to be 2kg lighter if not more. Performance should be up slightly as well. TVS though provides Synchronised Braking Tech or SBT as they call. This is the government mandated term and is similar to CBS.
What do you think of this move by TVS? Will the already strong one lakh NTorq family in India expand aggressively because of this? Will you prefer a front disc brake or save a couple of thousand bucks? We strongly recommend a front disc as it will reduce the braking distance significantly.
