Tata Motors was silently working on this project all along. The Tata Tiago NRG will be launched in India on September 12, 2018. The cross hatch styled car looks similar to the Aktiv concept that was on display at the 2016 Auto Expo. That it never materialised is another thing. However, now it is confirmed that the Tata Tiago NRG will be the first low cost cross hatchback in the country. It will compete with the Maruti Celerio X and the Ford Freestyle.
As is the norm, Tata Motors has used the Tiago hatchback as a base and built a rugged vehicle around it. The Tata Tiago NRG will have black plastic cladding all around and projector headlights. It also has a faux skid plate both at the front and back. As is apparent from the images and the data provided, the Tata Tiago NRG also boasts a higher ride height of 180mm. The mirror caps as well as roof rails too have a black shade to them. At the rear, there is a big black plastic connecting the tail lights.
Like the automatic trims of the Tiago, even the NRG gets orange inserts for the AC vents and upholstery. Instead of the regular unit in the Tiago top trim, this one has a 5.0-inch touchscreen system from the Tigor. The excellent Harman music system with eight speakers too is part of the deal. Tata Motors has also thrown in a cooled glovebox to the equation. Rest of the aspects of the cabin remain the same as the regular car.
In terms of engines, Tata Motors will continue with the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.0-litre diesel engines. These engines make 84PS/114Nm and 70PS/140Nm respectively. Unfortunately, there will no automatic option available for the Tata Tiago NRG.
Dual airbags, Cornering Stability Control as well as ABS with EBD will be offered on the expected lone trim.
