Tata Nexon EV to have a range up to 300 kilometre

Tata Nexon EV platform

Tata Motors is creating more ripples than any other electric vehicle manufacturer. While they recently announced a new Ziptron platform for the vehicles, the next announcement is even more revealing. Tata Motors is planning to launch the Nexon EV in India by April 2020. The Tata Nexon EV will most likely be showcased at the Auto Expo 2020. It could perhaps also be launched there. The Tata Nexon EV price in India could range between Rs 15-17 lakh. While we are unsure if this is ex-showroom or on-road price, the miser us will like to believe its the latter. At this price point, it may seem pricey but doesn’t have any competition. Save for the more expensive Rs 23 lakh Hyundai Kona EV.

Tata Nexon EV technical specifications

Too early to talk about it. However, we assume that the SUV will come with a Li-ion battery. Tata Motors says that, the Nexon EV will be equipped with an high voltage system, good performance, fast charging capability as well as adherence to IP67 (dust and water proof). The battery and motor will come with an eight year warranty. All these will be standard. That perhaps justifies the price and value for money proposition then.

Space quotient of the regular Nexon was always its USP and it will be with the EV too. Tata Motors will have the battery either at the centre of the floor or in the boot. We reckon the former. The car might also be heavier than before given that Li-ion batteries are heavy. To compensate for this, the suspension too will have been beefed up. We expect Tata to continue with 16-inch wheels like the regular Nexon. Expect, a slightly bigger touchscreen infotainment system as well as an all-digital instrument console. The latter will show the battery charge, range as well as other details.
