Tata senior management with the new Nexon EV

Tata Motors has taken the initiative towards electrification of the Indian car market by unveiling their second electric car, based on the Nexon compact SUV. The Nexon EV is the first locally-developed SUV to be showcased and bookings for the same have been opened for Rs 21,000. While the price tag hasn’t been revealed yet, Tata Motors has emphasized on keeping it within reach and not too far away from the existing price tag of the Nexon. To be offered in three trims – XM, XM+ and XM+ LUX, the Nexon EV boasts a 300km range making it ideal for daily usage.

Tell me more about the Tata Nexon EV

A 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack is used and it delivers 127PS of power and 254Nm of torque. Since all the torque is available right from the word go, the Tata Nexon EV is capable of sprinting to 60kmph in a claimed 4.6 seconds and 100kmph is 9.9 seconds, making it one of the fastest SUVs in India.

Built on the Nexon platform, the Nexon EV gets subtle cosmetic changes like a new grille, tweaked bumpers and headlamps and of course the EV badge. The 205mm ground clearance and the loads of interior space have been unaltered and the cabin continues to be a neatly laid out as well as comfortable space for its occupants.

The Nexon EV is also a connected car with it’s independent smartphone app that governs the car functions. You can charge the car from a 15A supply or avail the fast-charger specially designed by Tata to get the battery to 80 per cent within an hour. The battery pack is IP67 rated which means it is both waterproof and shockproof.

To be launched soon, the Nexon EV gets a special shade of blue called Teal Blue and we think a price tag close to 15 lakhs should make it an excellent choice for the early adopters of EVs in India. The launch is in a few weeks from now.
