Tata Nexon achieves five star rating in Global NCAP crash tests

That’s some super news. The Tata Nexon which had received a four star rating in crash tests conducted by GNCAP a few months ago, has now got five stars. This makes it the first made-in-India car to get a five star rating. It is also one of the safest compact SUVs around today. This result is valid for all Nexon units that have been manufactured after December 7, 2018.

The Tata Nexon scored five stars for Adult Occupant Protection and three stars for Child Occupant Protection. Following the Nexon’s four star result earlier this year,  Tata has improved a number of safety features including making a Seat Belt Reminder (SBR) for driver and passenger a standard for all variants of the model. In addition,  the Nexon was required to pass a side impact test meeting UN95 side impact protection requirement.

Standard safety features in the Tata Nexon now include seat belts for all seats, seat belt reminder for the front passenger, ABS with EBD as well as dual airbags. The Nexon is manufactured in India and currently is the second best selling compact SUV in its segment.

What does GNCAP have to say about the Nexon’s performance?

David Ward, Global NCAP secretary general said, “This is a huge landmark for car safety in India. Congratulations to Tata Motors for achieving India’s first five star rating for adult occupant protection. The SUV was engineered in India and this shows the huge capability of the domestic industry to achieve excellence in safety design and performance. With the Nexon, Tata have shown the global car industry that to achieve five stars you can ‘Make in India’. Global NCAP is looking forward to many more Indian five star cars and further improvements in both pedestrian protection and crash avoidance.”
