The Tata Harrier has been a hit. However, future buyers were quick to realise that the Harrier didn’t offer much in terms of features. The launch of the Kia Seltos meant that prospective Harrier buyers were going to be lured. Tata Motors’ counter measure for this is the new Harrier Black Edition. The company has now opened bookings of this special edition SUV at Rs 11,000. Deliveries, dealers say, will be fulfilled in September. It may be noted that the car hasn’t been launched officially by Tata Motors yet.
What are the new things I will get in the Harrier Black Edition?
Few cosmetic enhancements as well as an enhanced appeal. As the name suggests, a new black paint scheme, black skid plates as well as 17-inch alloys in the same palette. Tata Motors will also use the same theme inside. Under the hood, things will remain the same and this includes the 140PS/350Nm, 2.0-litre diesel engine. A 6-speed manual will be the only transmission option available for now. This aside, an automatic as well as a BS-VI upgrade too is on the cards. The Harrier range will also get a sunroof as well as 7-seat option.
Our sources say that the Tata Harrier Black Edition will be available in XT and XZ trims. Prices are going to remain the same as before. A price hike at this point when the Seltos is making every other SUV seem overpriced will be not favorable for Tata. However, it is likely that post the launch, prices may go up. The Black will likely remain a limited edition model.
Tata Motors will also launch the Altroz hatchback shortly after the Harrier Black Edition launch. This premium hatchback is expected to have segment-first features as well as more space than others. It will also come with BS-VI compliant engines.
