Tata Motors has finally revealed a name for the Harrier 7-seater SUV for our market. The Tata Gravitas 7-seater will be launched at the Auto Expo 2020. The Tata Gravitas 7-seater price in India is expected to start from Rs 14 lakh and it will compete with the Mahindra Xuv500. There will be a choice of new colour including a blue with the Gravitas.
Interesting. Tell me more about the Tata Gravitas 7-seater
The Tata Gravitas 7-seater is based on the OMEGA-arc that is again borrowed from Land Rover D8 platform. Tata engineers have stretched the body of the vehicle to accommodate the last row of seats and in the process, the SUV is a bit elongated now. It will replace the Safari in the company’s line-up. The Safari was the only 7-seater SUV in this bracket from Tata Motors apart from the Hexa (still on sale).
We expect Tata Motors to launch the Gravitas SUV to be launched with a 2.0-litre diesel engine. This motor is borrowed from Jeep Compass but will be available in a higher state of tune and BS-VI compliance. Expect it to make 170PS of power and 350Nm of torque. The engine will be paired with a 6-speed manual or an 6-speed automatic. The latter will be sourced from Hyundai. No all-wheel drive will be available. Tata will not have a petrol engine for this model, unfortunately.
Expect a bit more features with this model. Tata Motors will also have an eye on upcoming competition from the MG Hector 7-seater as well as the all-new Hyundai Creta. The latter will also likely have seven seats.
Announcing the name of this new SUV, Mayank Pareek – president, passenger vehicle business unit, Tata Motors said, “We are elated to reveal the name of our latest SUV offering– the Tata GRAVITAS. We are confident that the GRAVITAS will inspire and lead as a product among customers and industry alike.”
