Tata has surprised every one with a big bang today, starting with the Altroz, pricing the premium sedan beginning at Rs 5.29 lakhs, ex showroom india. The Altroz will be offered in five trims and petrol and diesel options with the Diesel Altroz price starting at Rs 6.99 lakhs going all the way up to 9.29 lakhs for the top spec diesel and 7.69 lakhs for the petrol.
Tata has priced the Altroz aggressively and with the latest news of its 5-Star safety NCAP rating, it sure seems to be right on the money in the premium segment where the buyers always look for the best. Built on the new Omega platform, the Altroz gets the new Tata fascia, the design that will be seen on all future Tata cars including the Tiago, Tigor and Nexon.
Inside, the well laid out cabin gets all the latest gadgets including a new touchscreen display, an hybrid analog-digital instrument cluster, climate control, power windows, power steering, automated mirrors et al. Under the hood, the Altroz gets the same powerplants as the Nexon, a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel both mated to manual gearboxes. Automatic gearboxes should quickly follow suit, at least on the diesel trim as the segment lacks a decent diesel automatic option anyway.
The Altroz is also offered with three customisation kits Rhythm, Style, Luxe and Urban starting from Rs 25,000 to Rs 39,000 depending on the package and the trim. It will compete with the popular Hyundai i20 and the Nexa Baleno along with Honda’s Jazz and the Volkswagen Polo.
With the Altroz, Tata enters the top-selling segment of the Indian car market, expanding its footprint in an attempt to maximize market share in these trying times when the movement has been slow.
