Tata Altroz hatchback production starts in India

The much-awaited Tata Altroz hatchback production has begun at the company’s Chakan plant. The Tata Altroz launch is scheduled for January 2020, just before the Auto Expo. Speaking of which, at the expo, Tata Motors will launch the Gravitas, its seven-seater Harrier. Tata had revealed the Altroz as the 45X concept at last year’s expo. The production model has stayed nearly true to concept. Expect prices to start from Rs 5.5 lakh, going all the way up to Rs 8.8 lakh, ex-showroom. It will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Volkswagen Polo and the Hyundai Elite i20.

New car, eh? What is the interesting thing about the Tata Altroz hatchback?

The Tata Altroz hatchback is built on a new platform. In fact, it is the first one to be made on the company’s new ALFA architecture. One can take a look at the company’s website to get more information on the design aspects. As far as what we know is that the Altroz will come with LED headlights and have the new-age SUV design just for the face. You know, the in-thing, wherein the fog and headlights are real close to each other. On the look of it, the car looks really stylish though space at the rear due to the sloping roofline is something that remains to be seen.

From what was revealed at GIMS 2019, the Altroz has a pleasing interior. There could be many segment-new features. Tata Motors will want to give it their all as this is their first stab at the premium hatch segment. Currently, it is ruled by the Baleno, followed closely by the i20. Tata will definitely want to steal some of that limelight. The engines, likely to be 1.2-litre turbo units, will have drive mode options. Few sources say that the diesel Altroz might not be available initially. There will be automatic as well as manual transmission options.

Expect top-notch safety from the Tata Altroz hatchback. As it is, these days, new-age Tata vehicles are perceived to be safer than the lot. This was validated to some extent by the GNCAP ratings earlier this year.

Stay tuned. We will have a review of the Tata Altroz hatchback soon!
