Suzuki V-Strom 650 BS6 launched; costlier but no value-add

When you look a the chronology of things happening, the launch of the Suzuki V-Strom 650 BS6 should have happened a long time ago. Suzuki India though took its own sweet time and when the bike was launched, it seems a disappointment. At least on the price front. The price of the BS6 bike is Rs 8.84 lakh, ex-showroom. With this price, it is apparent that the BS4 model was affordable at Rs 7.46 lakh. This Rs 1.38 lakh price hike is not good considering that except for the emissions compliance, there isn’t any other added feature. The bike is available in showrooms from December 1 and bookings have started now. Two colours are available with the bike as before – Glacier White and Champion Yellow. The Kawasaki Versys 650 is priced at Rs 6.79 lakh, ex-showroom, its direct rival. We don’t see many takers now for this Suzuki.

Suzuki V-Strom 650 BS6 specs, features

The Suzuki V-Strom 650 BS6 continues with the same design language as before. In fact, you will be hard pressed to know the visual changes. A halogen headlamp is on offer along with an LCD instrument console. This instrument console is fairly lucid and has a variety of information including average fuel efficiency, three-levels of traction control, switchable ABS, and more. There are also the spoked wheels on offer.

Suzuki continues with the 650cc, V-twin motor that still makes 71PS of power and 62Nm. The latter though is achieved 200rpm lower than before thereby making it more rideable in city conditions. The bike also gets an anti-stall feature that slightly raises the rpm each time the rider is in a higher gear but lower speed. A 6-speed gearbox with slip and assist is also paired with this engine.

What do you think about the pricing of the bike? Will you be buying one soon? Do let us know.
