The Suzuki Jimny has been the rage this year. Ever since spy shots of the vehicle and eventually the full reveal happened, folks around the world have been going crazy. The mini G-Wagen looks, the equipment, all-around capability as well as a frugal engine have endeared it to the masses. Suzuki isn’t just resting on its laurels. There is a new Suzuki Jimny Survive SUV concept and it is slated for a Tokyo Auto Salon unveil.
How is the Suzuki Jimny Survive concept different?
For starters, it is still a concept. But knowing Suzuki’s penchant for converting concepts to production, we know where the Survive is headed. Take a closer look and you will see metal plates on all the four sides. There is literally no bumper in place. Instead of the front bumper, there is a mechanical winch in its place. A matte paint scheme, similar to the ones on Pajeros, can be seen. The headlights have metal grilles to save them from flying rocks and debris. To complement the off-road ability, there is also the steel wheels with knobby tyres on them.
A huge metal box too is available and is placed on the roof. It is definite that the Suzuki Jimny Survive concept has gained weight over the regular car. However, this and other technical bits are still under wraps. Suzuki will give out details on January 11, 2019 or perhaps a few days before it. We believe the Jimny Survive may have the same 1.5-litre petrol engine but with a higher power output. Something close to 120PS will be great for this diminutive car.
The bigger question on everybody’s lips is if the Jimny in its standard form coming to India? The answer is, yes. However, it may not come in the conventional powertrain route. Instead, it could be an electric runabout. We expect Suzuki to showcase it at the Auto Expo 2020.
