Steelbird Helmets have tied up with Italian helmet and apparel maker Blauer. The Indian-bred helmet maker will be the exclusive partner to Blauer and will manufacture and supply helmets worldwide for the latter. Blauer HT helmets will be designed and the R&D accounted for out of Italy. In 2-3 months time, the first helmet will be first launched in American and European markets and is likely to come down to our country in the beginning of next year. As is the norm, these helmets will be ECE as well as DOT compliant. Needless to say, when it comes to India, the Blauer HT helmet will also be compatible with the ISI regulations too.
The idea behind tying up with Blauer is to have a worldwide presence. At the moment, Steelbird helmets cater to the mass market and are priced up to Rs 5,000. Steelbird offers full face as well as half face helmets. Recently the company also introduced helmets for the adventure motorcyclists too. What it lacks right now is the premium market share, something which Blauer should be able to add to the portfolio. Steelbird says that the upcoming new helmets from Blauer will be priced between Rs 10,000-50,000. Players like LS2, HJC, Bell, Sol, Shoei and ARAI operate in this space and it will be not be cakewalk for the relatively lesser known Italian helmet maker. For a jog down history lane, Blauer HT is part of Blauer World Fashion Srl and is exclusively licensed to FGF Industry Srl. They not only market helmets but also sell clothes, apparel and accessories.
