Okinawa scooters has been operational in India for a little less than two years. In this time frame, they have brought in multiple electric scooters like the Ridge, Praise and more. This Indian start-up with a Japanese name has had a good start then. Dwelling on it, the Okinawa i-Praise has been now launched. The Okinawa i-Praise price in India is Rs 1.15 lakh, ex-showroom. Bookings have already started, Okinawa have amassed 450 orders however deliveries will be fulfilled only by March 2019. The available colours of the i-Praise include glossy silver black, glossy red black and glossy golden black.
What is the buzz about the Okinawa i-Praise?
First up, you got to admit that the i-Praise is one swanky looking scooter. The Ather 450 looks docile in comparison. Moreover, this is the industry’s first Li–ion battery scooter that comes with a detachable battery unit. One can charge the scooter through the regular 5A socket. Okinawa says that the kerb weight of the i-Praise is lower than other electric scooters by a good 30-40 per cent. The claimed range is 160-180km and Okinawa says that the scooter can be charged flat in 2-3 hours. This without a fast charger option. Fast charging reduces the life of the battery and hence Okinawa tends not to provide one. Moreover, replacing the battery after 2-3 years will cost around Rs 25,000.
As is the norm with electric scooters, one can download the app from the PlayStore and keep a track of their vehicle. These features include GPS-enabled directions via the rider’s phone, driver performance rating, battery health tracker, geo fencing, maintenance as well as insurance reminder and more. Speaking of insurance, the i-Praise will come with a 5-year mandatory insurance that should cost less than Rs 4,000. There is a fully digital instrument cluster, disc brakes on both ends, e-ABS as well as LED lighting.
Jeetender Sharma, MD, Okinawa Scooters said, “The team at Okinawa has pulled out all the stops to create a truly revolutionary product with i-Praise and we are delighted to see the incredible response that the EV has received even in its pre-launch phase. It is also a proud moment for us that an elite, forward-looking organization such as the Indian Navy has become the first customer for i-Praise. This not only demonstrates the strength of our product, but also encourages us to continue with our vision to innovate and transform the Indian automobile market.”
