Nissan India did mention a few months ago that they will be going bullish on the market soon. Their offensive starts with the car that you see on these pages, the Nissan Kicks. The weird name aside, the Nissan Kicks SUV will sit above the Terrano and could possibly even replace it. The Kicks that we see here is different and is bigger than the model that Nissan sells overseas. It goes on sale in the first half of 2019.
Is the Nissan Kicks a made-for-India car?
Yes, it is a specific to our country car as of now. The new Nissan Kicks is based on an updated version of the Renault-Nissan’s M0 platform (and not on Nissan’s V platform). This platform also underpins the Renault Captur. The dimensions of the Nissan Kicks are 4,384 mm x 1813 mm x 1,656 mm. The wheelbase of the Kicks is similar to the Renault’t at 2,673mm.
Present on the India-spec Nissan Kicks are LED projector headlights with the boomerang-like LED daytime running lights and a honeycomb mesh design for the grille. It’s bumper too is redesigned and has got faux air inlets above the fog lights. An aluminium skid plate is also there and it adds to the Kicks’ appearance. Nissan has given 17-inch dual tone alloy wheels and a LED tail light to the Kicks. There is a contrasting roof on the car. The C-pillar is blacked out thereby lending the roof a “floating effect”.
Nissan India didn’t reveal details about the interior of the Kicks. However, we believe that the SUV will have a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that will have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This 5-seater will also have automatic climate control with AC vents for the rear passengers as well. The boot space, along with the increased length from the international model, will also be more than 430 litres. All-wheel disc brakes as well as a ground clearance of 210mm are given on this SUV.
For the engine options, we believe Nissan will use the familiar dCi 1.5-litre motor in its 110PS guise. This engine will be mated to a 6-speed manual and an AMT. The petrol will be also a 1.5-litre unit that produces 105PS but with a manual tranny. All-wheel drive could also be offered as an option with the diesel engine.
The Nisan Kicks goes on sale early next year. One can expect the Nissan Kicks price in India to be between Rs 10 lakh – Rs 15 lakh. The Nissan Kicks will compete with the Renault Captur, Hyundai Creta and the Jeep Compass.
