The Wagon R is one of India’s best selling cars. Millions of folks here buy the Wagon R. It is primarily because it is a spacious as well as reliable vehicle. Looks like Maruti wants to take sales two notches higher. The next-gen Maruti Wagon R has been spotted testing in India and the replacement is due next year. While the images are hazy, one can make out the silhouette of the vehicle and the design language of the car.
Tell me more about the next-gen Maruti Wagon R
The headlights of the Wagon R look almost similar to the outgoing model. However, these seem bigger as well and like the VXi+ trim now, there could be projectors as well. The next-gen Maruti Wagon R will also be larger than the current model. While, at this juncture, the dimensions are relatively unknown we believe that there could be a slight increase in wheelbase as well. Tail lights of the new Wagon R also seem much different than the current model and seem more modern as well.
This new Wagon R is different than the electric model which is currently being tested. Moreover, this vehicle is also much different than the global Wagon R models on sale now. It though will likely be based on the same platform as the outgoing car. Moreover, the 1.0-litre K10 engine will be updated to meet BS-VI standards. The power as well as torque will go up slightly. A CNG version will also be available. It is also highly likely that SHVS will make its way to the Wagon R as well.
ABS with EBD, dual airbags and rear parking sensors will be standard. The model will also be crash tested for compliance with the Indian regulations. The next-gen Maruti Wagon R will compete with the Tata Tiago, Hyundai Santro and the Ford Figo.
