Tell me more about the next gen Maruti Ertiga
For starters, it borrows its Heartect platform from the Baleno, Swift and Dzire. This platform is claimed to be lighter than before and this will affect performance in a positive manner. We will talk about it later. For now, the looks are different than that of the outgoing car though. This includes a refreshed front fascia that boasts a Ciaz-like grille, projector headlights, new bumpers and fog lights. From the side, the next gen Maruti Ertiga gets new 15-inch alloy wheels as well as a floating roof-like effect. At the back, there are new crystalline LED lights and a refreshed bumper.
Inside, the Ertiga gets a sculpted dashboard design with wood finish. The steering wheel is a flat bottomed unit and is wrapped in leather. The Ertiga is now 130mm longer, 40mm wider and 5mm taller than the outgoing car. Wheelbase, though, remains the same at 2740mm. Maruti claims to have enhanced the ease of entry into the second and third row. Both get a flip mechanism which folds the seats flush. Boot capacity is now ranked at 210 litres with all the seats in place. Cooled front cup holders, climate control and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with MirrorLink are some of the new additions.
I heard there is a new engine in the next gen Maruti Ertiga
Yes, there is. Contrary to popular belief, it isn’t the new 1.5-litre diesel engine. Instead Maruti is using its tried and tested 1.3-litre 90PS/200Nm diesel motor. The petrol in the meanwhile is the same unit from the Ciaz – 104PS/138Nm 1.5-litre naturally aspirated. This engine is relatively new to the Maruti range and specially to the Ertiga. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard while a 4-speed automatic is available with the petrol engine exclusively. Maruti claims a mileage of 19.34kmpl from the petrol manual, 18.69kmpl from automatic and a lofty 2547kmpl from the diesel. Currently, the CNG version of the Ertiga isn’t available.
As expected, ABS along with dual airbags, rear parking sensors, speed limit warning and ISOFIX child seat mounts are standard across range. A new trim, Z+ has been introduced as well. The next gen Maruti Ertiga competes with the Mahindra Marazzo.
