What’s new in the 2020 Hyundai Verna?
The 2020 Hyundai Verna is built on a new platform. There are 11 trims as well as five engine-gearbox combinations. The Verna looks very different than the outgoing car. The cascading grille brings in a new favour. Hyundai persists with the halogen projectors plus there are LED DRLs. There is also the projector fog lamp. The bumpers too have undergone changes, possibly for pedestrian protection compliance.
Hyundais are known to have opulent cabins and the Verna takes it a notch higher. The upholstery is new while there is also the wireless charger, air purifier, new AC louvers and faux wood on the dashboard. The instrument cluster is fully digital for top models whereas there is also the provision to cool the front seats. We like the fact that the 2020 Hyundai Verna is the only connected car in its segment and get new related features. The 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system is complete with the usual Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Higher trims of the Verna also come with a sunroof.
As far as powertrains are concerned, the 2020 Hyundai Verna gets three engines. These have been borrowed from the Creta as well as Venue. While the Creta’s 1.5-litre petrol/diesel engines are there, the Venue’s 1.0-litre turbo petrol too is available. The diesel makes 115PS of power and 250Nm. One can order it with a 6-speed manual or torque converter. The 1.5-litre petrol makes 115PS and 245Nm. A 6-speed manual is standard while the CVT is optional. The third engine is the 1.0-litre turbo that makes 120PS/172Nm. There is only a 7-speed DCT automatic with this engine. The Verna is the only car in its segment to offer such a varied engine and gearbox combinations, BS6 diesel included.
Safety wise, the new 2020 Hyundai Verna comes with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, speed alert and front seat belt reminders. Higher trims get six airbags, reverse camera, front parking sensors, ESC and tyre pressure monitor. In terms of competition, the Verna will square off against the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City as well as Volkswagen Vento.
