The all-new Honda CR-V will be launched in India on October 9, 2018. The vehicle was first showcased to the public at the 2018 Auto Expo. While this is the fifth generation, this will be the first time the new Honda CR-V will come with a diesel engine. Bookings are expected to start shortly while we believe the deliveries should happen in a few days after launch.
New diesel engine?
Yes, this will not be the same 1.5-litre engine that currently powers the City, Amaze as well as the WR-V. The new diesel engine measures 1.6-litres. It will produce 120PS of power and 300Nm. The diesel engine in the new Honda CR-V will be mated to a 6-speed manual as well as a 9-speed automatic. The latter also comes with paddle shifters. Honda will also offer an AWD as optional.
The petrol engine in question is a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated unit that makes 154PS and 189Nm. A CVT will be exclusive to this engine. It is said that AWD will not be on offer with this motor. While Honda will locally assemble the CR-V to keep prices down, it will likely import these engines.
Features in the new Honda CR-V
A powered driver’s seat, leather upholstery, touchscreen 7.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, rear AC vents, powered tailgate and more importantly a third row of seats. With this last row offering, the new Honda CR-V looks to compete with the Hyundai Tucson, Mitsubishi Outlander and Isuzu MU-X. The vehicle is also larger than the outgoing car. The wheelbase too has increased and we believe this will lead to an improved passenger space. While at space, the boot volume too has gone up significantly.
If you look at the lights, they are now full LED both at the front and back. The styling represents that of new-age vehicles from Honda and will definitely appeal to the premium soft-roader SUV buyer. Expect pricing to start from Rs 25 lakh.
