Honda City! This one name has carried the hallowed Honda brand in the country. It has been the bread and butter model and now it will enter its fifth generation in India. Yes, the all-new Honda City, showcased in Thailand, will be launched in India on March 16. Bookings begin from March 1 and the booking amount is Rs 11,000. This new Honda City price in India is expected to start from Rs 10.60 lakh for the petrol while the diesel might be given the skip all together. Honda has already updated its 1.5-litre diesel engine to comply with the new norms and the motor is already running in the Amaze.

That’s good! Tell me more about the new Honda City

The car is based on the new platform and hence is expected to be lighter as well as have more tensile strength. Honda will manufacture the vehicle here and one can expect the next-generation BR-V to based on the same platform. At the same time, Honda also has an improved interior layout while it is hard at this moment to tell you if it will be more spacious. By this, we mean in comparison with the segment-leader, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. There will definitely be more gizmos and the magic, we believe, lies under the hood. The 2020 Honda City will likely have a 1.5-litre mild hybrid petrol engine that will have the same power of 119PS while the torque should improve to 160Nm. Honda might also add another new 1.0-litre turbo petrol in the City. Whether it warrants the additional investment, remains to be seen.

If you are delaying your Honda city buying decision because of this or looking at a good deal, read through these next few lines. Honda dealers are offering, what we Indians call it, a “solid deal” on the old City. Dealers have stocks of the 2019 model with them and a buyer will get upfront Rs 32,000 discount. This is applicable for both petrol and diesel versions, across grades. Since only the petrol City in its old form has been updated to BS-VI, there are specific discounts on it too. The VX MT/VX CVT/ZX MT/ZX CVT trims get a Rs 37,000 discount while the 2020 production date models too benefit in the same fashion.
