It’s no secret that BMW Motorrad India is looking at bringing in its most affordable motorcycles, the BMW G310R and G310 GS soon. While the launch was supposed to happen in 2016, we understand that its been delayed due to various reasons. Nonetheless, the company is now gearing for the launch this year. From the look of it, the launch isn’t far away too. Xbhp has spotted the motorcycle on a truck, somewhere near the BMW factory in Chennai. It may be noted that BMW Motorrad already manufactures the G310 GS in India at its partner TVS Motors’ Hosur plant. The BMW G310R is also manufactured here and both the motorcycles currently are being exported to European markets.
The BMW G310 GS is one eagerly awaited motorcycle in India. Owning a motorcycle with the BMW badge is one coveted thing around the world, with India being no exception. To keep costs low, the BMW G310 GS shares most of its components with the fantastic TVS Apache RR310, the suspension as well as steering geometry are different. This is because the BMW G310 GS is an off-road oriented motorcycle as opposed to the RR310 which is more of a street and race bike. The BMW is aimed more towards a comfortable touring experience with a bit of off-road thrown into the mix. A reverse-inclined 310cc engine that makes 34PS of power and 28Nm of torque, along with a 6-speed transmission comprise the powertrain. Tubeless tyres mounted on alloy wheels, upside down forks, rear monoshock as well as dual disc with ABS is standard. What will be optional are a set of panniers and off-road protection.
BMW Motorrad will price the G310 GS very competitively. It will take on the Royal Enfield Himalayan and the Kawasaki Versys X300. We believe the prices of the BMW G310 GS will start from around Rs 2.8 lakh, ex-showroom.
