MG Motor India has played it quite well with the Hector and the e-ZS. The Hector offers a bigger SUV for Hyundai Creta-money tagging the brand as value-for-money while the e-ZS has given it the tech-savvy image that comes with a fully electric vehicle. Now, MG is bringing in the Gloster, the big-fat SUV that almost matches the Audi Q7 or the Mercedes-Benz GLS in size.
Those who wanted a big-fat SUV, upgrading from the Toyota Fortuner or the Ford Endeavour had to spend more than twice the money to get hold of the same size. The MG Gloster aims to come in that space and offer an upgrade to those customers and hopefully for much lesser.
More details on the MG Gloster
The MG Gloster is just over five-metres in length and almost two-metres wide with a wheelbase of almost three-metres. The three-row SUV should offer loads of cabin space even for the third row of passengers. It will come with class-leading features like panoramic sunroof, separate-zone climate control unit, a large touchscreen display in the centre. A whole bunch of safety aids including ABS, traction control, multiple airbags as well as emergency assistance are a given.
The MG Gloster is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine. This engine will develop more than 200PS of power and 450Nm of torque. It should ideally be offered with an automatic gearbox along with the manual gearbox option. All-wheel drive is a given for this size of an SUV and it will get 360-degree parking camera.
We think the top-spec MG Gloster should be priced below Rs 50 lakh, ex-showroom. If it happens, then the SUV can ideally eat into Fortuner/Endeavour sales and also hark into the Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC and the BMW X3 territory as well. MG, in India has been known to make value-for-money products and with a very good service back-up.
