Maruti Suzuki has launched the much-awaited S-Cross petrol in the Indian market. The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross petrol price in India is Rs 8.39 lakh for the Sigma variant. The top-end model is for Rs 12.39 lakh, ex-showroom. Customers get a choice of manual as well as automatic transmissions with the S-Cross petrol. Bookings for the S-Cross petrol started at Rs 11,000 a few weeks ago. The available colours of the S-Cross petrol include Nexa Blue, Premium Silver, Granite Grey, Caffeine Brown and Pearl Artic White. There are no exterior changes and dealers are promising delivery within a week’s time. The S-Cross petrol goes up against the Nissan Kicks, Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and Kia Seltos cars. Only the Koreans here offer a diesel engine option while the Kicks will soon be joined by the Renault with a turbo petrol engine.
What is new in the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross petrol?
The new Maruti Suzuki S-Cross petrol uses the same 1.5-litre engine as the Ciaz and XL6. This engine makes 104PS of power and 138Nm. The engine is mated to a 4-speed torque converter or a 5-speed manual. Maruti engineers claim a mileage of 18.55kmpl fuel efficiency with the manual and 18.43kmpl with the auto. There is SmartHybrid technology as standard and this gives a torque boost, brake energy regeneration, as well as idle start-stop. We have experienced this engine in the Ciaz and Ertiga. It is a mileage champion as far as petrols are concerned.
The SmartPlay Studio infotainment system is a new addition. Otherwise the S-Cross petrol is similar to the diesel. Dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat tethers, rear parking sensors are all standard equipment. The bigger question is who will buy the S-Cross now that it doesn’t even have a diesel motor. Both the 1.3-litre as well as 1.6-litre diesel engines were the mainstay of the S-Cross.
