Maruti Suzuki is having a bit of troubled times at the moment. However, that hasn’t stopped the automaker from introducing newer models. Case in point is the new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga CNG. Maruti has finally rolled out the CNG trim after introducing the new Ertiga here 7 months ago. The older-generation Ertiga CNG commanded a chunk of sales especially where fleet operators were concerned. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga CNG is based on the VXi trim and is priced at Rs 8.87 lakh, ex-Delhi. This price is Rs 71,000 over that of the VXi trim. Bookings have started while deliveries will happen around mid-August, bang in the middle of the festive season.
What’s new in the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga CNG?
For starters, the factory fitted kit has a dual-ECU and i-GPI system that claims to provide optimum power. The 1.5-litre engine in CNG mode makes 92PS and 122Nm whereas in petrol guise, it produces 104PS and 138Nm. A 5-speed manual transmission is the only choice available with the CNG while this trim also loses out on the SHVS. The claimed mileage in petrol mode is 19.34kmpl while that in CNG is 26.20km/kg. Maruti says that the CNG tank has a capacity equivalent to 60 litres of water. It is placed in the boot, thereby rendering it useless for cargo.
This Ertiga CNG at 1,235kg is heavier than the regular VXi by 100kg. This should blunt performance a bit. The suspension as well as brakes too have been uprated for this extra weight. Since this is the new Ertiga, one now gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors as well as speed alert warning as standard. Apart from this, front seat belt reminder too has been added. Rest of the features stay same as the regular VXi.
Maruti is readying a more premium version of the Ertiga. That will be in showrooms come August 21. It will retail out of Nexa dealerships.
