At a time when makers were shying away from the MPV space, Maruti created a niche for itself with the Ertiga. Currently, the Ertiga is the most sold MPV. Maruti is also readying a more premium Ertiga. It has been recently spied testing in India. This Ertiga XL6 will retail out of Nexa showrooms. Maruti will launch the MPV in India on August 21. Let’s see what’s different in this than the regular Ertiga.
An Ertiga in new clothes?
In a bid to distinguish the XL6 from the Ertiga, Maruti is making use of a more bolder bumper, bigger LED projector lights, side skirts, funky alloy wheel theme and a rear spoiler. There are also roof rails. Maruti might likely also introduce a dual tone option which till now has eluded the MPV segment. Inside, an all-black interior is to be expected. Maruti might also introduce the newer infotainment from the WagonR and Baleno. The older Ertiga system becomes laggy after sometime. The middle row will have captain seats. As it is, the name XL6 suggests six seats. These middle row seats will also slide for added comfort.
Comfort reminds us, Maruti has also added individual AC vents as well as USB ports for all passengers. The boot space remains the same as before. A lone engine option will be available at launch – the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder, SHVS petrol. This one makes 105PS/138Nm and is paired to a 5-speed manual. Expect a lofty 18kmpl from this engine. Our reviews of the Ertiga as well as Ciaz petrol have shown that this engine has good low-end torque. The top-end though is a bit lacking. Owing to this, the engine is efficient as well and returns close to 13-14kmpl in city.
The XL6 could be the Maruti flagship at Nexa. Currently, the flagship is the S-Cross. The latter isn’t a hot selling model as it is. Expect the Maruti Ertiga XL6 price in India to start from Rs 9 lakh and go up to Rs 11.5 lakh, ex-showroom.
