This engine has been in the development for quite sometime. Maruti Suzuki has now launched its flagship sedan, the Ciaz, with a new 1.5-litre diesel engine. The Maruti Ciaz with 1.5-litre diesel engine price in India starts from Rs 9.97 lakh and goes all the way to Rs 11.37 lakh, ex-Delhi. Bookings are already underway while the deliveries will be fulfilled within a month.
Details of the Maruti Ciaz with 1.5-litre diesel engine
This new engine has been developed in-house, much like the Super Carry’s 800cc diesel. The all-aluminium dubbed as DDiS 225, makes 94PS of power and 225Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a new 6-speed manual transmission. Maruti Suzuki claims a fuel efficiency of 26.8kmpl while there is no SHVS available with this engine. The company also says that the clutch action as well as the gears have been optimised for a comfortable drive.
This version of the Ciaz will sell alongside the 90PS/200Nm 1.3-litre diesel and the 104PS/138Nm 1.5-litre petrol. The latter two engines get SHVS which aids low speed driveability as well as improves fuel efficiency. Both the engines come with a 5-speed manual but Maruti also offers the petrol engine with a 4-speed automatic option.
The Maruti Ciaz with 1.5-litre diesel engine costs a mere Rs 9,000 – 30,000 more than the corresponding 1.3-litre unit. This makes it fantastic value for money and still undercuts the Verna (higher powered engine) and the City (more power but less torque). Maruti has got the Ciaz 1.5 diesel in Delta, Zeta (Rs 11.08 lakh) and Alpha (Rs 11.37 lakh) trims. This engine will also be available under the hood of the Ertiga and possibly the Vitara Brezza at a later stage.
Kenichi Ayukawa, managing director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki said “Maruti Suzuki has always re-defined the Indian auto industry with its revolutionary offerings. The all -new aluminium 1.5-litre DDiS 225 diesel engine is yet another testament of the same. This new engine offers an optimum balance of enhanced performance with best in class fuel efficiency. The new engine showcases our commitment to provide products that capture performance aspirations of our young customers. We are confident that introduction of this new engine will further strengthen our portfolio and help in popularity of our cars.”
