Maruti Suzuki has launched the first BS-VI compliant hatchback in the country. The Maruti Baleno Dualjet price in India starts from Rs 7.25 lakh and goes all the way to Rs 7.86 lakh, ex-Delhi. Maruti is also offering this engine with its Smart Hybrid tech. The older 1.2-litre petrol engine is also BS-VI compliant and is priced starting from Rs 5.58 lakh. This price is Rs 12,000 more than the BS-IV unit. Bookings have started for Rs 11,000 now while deliveries will start from mid-May 2019.
Give me more information about this new Maruti Baleno Dualjet
Let’s talk about the engine first. This engine has been in existence since 2014. In fact, it is based on the same architecture as the age-old 1.2-litre petrol engine from MSIL. It now features a higher compression ratio of 12.0:1 as compared to the 11.0:1. It has improved cooling as well as the EGR too has been reworked. This new engine also two injectors close to the inlet valve to reduce combustion losses. Hence the name.
As is the case with most Suzuki engines, even this one is more efficient than the regular 1.2. This is no doubt aided by the SHVS which brings in torque assist as well as idle start-stop and brake energy recuperation. The ARAI-rated efficiency is 23.87kmpl while that of the regular 1.2 is 21 thereabouts. Speaking of which, the older 1.2 too has got software as well as hardware updates to make it BS-VI compliant. Maruti hasn’t mentioned anything about the 1.3-litre diesel engine. This is because this motor cannot be upgraded to meet the BS-VI norms and must be retired. So, this is your last chance to grab the diesel Baleno units.
Both the petrol engines get a 5-speed manual while the regular 1.2 can also be optioned with a CVT. There are no other changes and both the cars get the same equipment levels like before. As it is, the Baleno was only refreshed a couple of months ago.
