The Maruti Suzuki Alto was the company’s first BS6 product in the Indian market. That was indeed a bold step and was taken nearly a year ago. Now, we have often wondered and aloud as to why the CNG models from Maruti aren’t out yet. Here, the company has answered it now. The Maruti Alto 800 CNG BS6 price in India is Rs 4.32 lakh and there are two trims available – LXI and LXI (O) for Rs 4.36 lakh. No points for guessing what that (O) brings to the table – a passenger airbag. We recommend that you buy this one for that additional 4k.
So, what has the Maruti Alto 800 CNG BS6 lost in the process?
Technically, it hasn’t. The CNG engine produces 40PS of power and 60Nm. However, in the petrol mode, it makes 47PS and 69Nm. The Maruti Alto 800 CNG BS6 is paired with a 5-speed manual and the company claims that it will deliver 32.99km/kg. This is slightly down from the previous 33.5km/kg that was claimed. The company says that they are using dual ECU and a different injection system that detects low fuel levels and accordingly switches. Moreover, Maruti says they have fortified the suspension for the additional 6kg cylinder. With the introduction of the BS6 CNG, Maruti Suzuki will be moving its entire compressed natural gas portfolio to BS6.
The Alto LXI CNG has got power windows in the front as well as full wheel covers. It also has dual tone upholstery. The only thing that suffers is the boot space. As it is, the Alto being a small car, has abysmal boot space and now with the addition of a CNG cylinder in the boot, it has only done down. However, at this price point as well as BS-VI compliance, the Alto 800 remains one of the only cars in its category to offer this convenience.
