Mahindra has launched a new variant of the Scorpio in India. The Mahindra Scorpio S9 price in India is Rs 14 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. It is priced Rs 50k over the S7 trim and a full lakh cheaper than the S11 2WD. This S9 sits just below the S11 trim and has a lot of features borrowed from the latter as well. Mahindra has launched this new trim to bridge the gap between the S7 and S11 trims. The company also gets a head start on the Tata Harrier, which will likely be launched in January 2019.
What are the features of the Mahindra Scorpio S9?
The Mahindra Scorpio S9 brings in most of the goodies that were previously available only on the S11 trim. This includes projector headlights with LED brow and static bending tech , ORVMs with turn indicators and new-age braking system on the outside. Inside, it gets a 6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, GPS navigation in 10 languages, driver information system, intellipark assist, gearshift indicator and a voice assist system.
Auto climate control, steering mounted cruise control, seven side facing or eight front facing seats, auto up-down driver power window, and extended power window are features over the S7 trim. In terms of safety, the Mahindra Scorpio S9 brings in dual airbags, ABS with EBD, front fog lights and a speed alert system.
Mahindra offers two engines and three states of tune with the Scorpio engine. The Mahindra Scorpio S9 is available only with the new 140PS/320Nm 2.2-litre turbodiesel. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels. Optional 4-wheel drive is offered only on the S11 trim. The Mahindra Scorpio S9 rides on 17-inch wheels with wheel caps.
The Scorpio has seen a dip in its sales recently. It is likely that customers favour the more modern competition which is more car-like to drive. The upcoming Tata Harrier is expected to further take away some of the Scorpio’s sales.
