Mahindra and Mahindra is ready for a second round of onslaught at the top end SUV segment in India. The SsangYong Rexton G4 which was showcased at the Auto Expo will be launched this month with a Mahindra badge. While the name of the SUV was earlier speculated as Inferno or even XUV700, it is now confirmed that it will be called Alturas. The Mahindra Alturas SUV will be launched in India on November 24, 2018. Mahindra has ditched its alpha numeric fixation as well as that of models ending with the letter “O”. Alturas means scaling new heights or dignity. Mahindra wants to take on the biggies with this new product.
Mahindra Alturas SUV details
The Mahindra Alturas SUV will be the flagship product. It will sit above the Mahindra XUV500. The SUV has a butch styling and will have three row of seats. It will be available in two trims – G2 and G4. Both these trims will be separated based on the availability of four wheel drive. The G2 will come only in two-wheel drive guise while the G4 is a four wheel drive model. Both the cars are expected to have leather upholstery, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, powered seats as well as dual zone automatic climate control. The seats are expected to be ventilated too and have memory function as well.
In terms of powertrain, the Mahindra Alturas SUV will get a 2.2-litre diesel engine that will produce 180PS of power and 450Nm of torque. A lone 7-speed automatic gearbox will transfer power to the rear wheels. Mahindra says that the ground clearance of the Alturas SUV will be more than 240mm. The turning radius of the car will also be 5.5 metre.
The best part will be that the Mahindra Alturas SUV will be priced lower than the competition. Speaking of which, the Mahindra Alturas SUV will compete with the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and Isuzu MU-X. The made-in India Mahindra Alturas price in India is likely to start from Rs 22 lakh.
