Lexus has done the unthinkable in India. The company has opened sales for its LX570 petrol powered SUV for Rs 2.32 crore, ex-showroom. Lexus also has the LX 450d which was introduced here sometime last year at the same price. The Lexus LX570 is a proper seven seater and will compete with the Audi Q7, Range Rover Sport and the BMW X7. In the meanwhile, the diesel Lexus LX SUV still is being offered as a 5-seater. A warranty of one lakh kilometres or three years, whichever is earlier is offered with the SUV along with roadside assistance.
Lexus has plonked a massive 5.7-litre V8 engine under the hood of the 2018 LX570 SUV. The engine makes 370PS of power and 530Nm of torque. Power is transferred to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine as well as the chassis is based on the Toyota Landcruiser platform and while the Lexus isn’t about big 0-100kmph times, the company quotes 7.7s. The Lexus LX570 should do around 200kmph with ease and have a fuel economy in the region of 7-8kmpl. A massive 138-litre tank stores fuel in the LX 570.
What the customer is assured of is high quality materials being used all around as well as luxury at its best. The cabin is swathed with leather upholstery, head-up display, DVD screens with Artificial Intelligence at the back of the front seat head rests, four-zone climate control, Mark and Levinson audio system with 19-speakers, powered front seats and more. While the Landcruiser is acclaimed as one of the best off-roaders in the world, the Lexus which sits on the same chassis is also held in high esteem. However, how many of these Lexus LX570 owners will want to take their near Rs 3 crore SUV off-road remains to be seen.
