Jaguar Land Rover is slowly moving to petrol engines for their entire range in India now. Proof? They have just announced the launch of the Land Rover Discovery Sport Ingenium petrol for Rs 49.20 lakh for the SE trim and Rs 52.70 lakh. The updated Range Rover Evoque with the Ingenium petrol too makes its way to our market with the a price tag of Rs 51.06 lakh for the SE and Rs 60.73 lakh for the HSE trim. Prices are ex-showroom, pan-India.
The Ingenium engines have been built ground up by Jaguar Land Rover and feature motors that consume less fuel and deliver more power. These aluminium engines are available in both petrol as well as diesel configurations. There are various power options available for the Ingenium petrol, however, for the Discovery as well as the Evoque, it is being offered in the 240PS/340Nm guise. The motor is a single scroll turbo unit and is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. These new petrol motors are said to be around 15 per cent more efficient than the older engine.
Currently, the Ingenium engines are offered with the Jaguar XE, XF as well as Range Rover Velar. The power configurations are different for each motor.
Jaguar is looking to move to pure electric powertrains from 2020. It is likely that these will be the last of the new conventional powered motors from JLR that we will be seeing. JLR’s Indian approach to fossil fuels is still a mystery though.
