Okay, this is no hoax. KTM has finally launched the much-awaited 790 Duke. The pricing may not be what we expected but then this is a good start nonetheless. The KTM 790 Duke price in India is Rs 8.64 lakh, ex-showroom. This is an introductory pricing for the Austrian-made motorcycle. Few KTM outlets had already begun accepting deposits for the vehicle while deliveries will start in a month. KTM India is rolling out the bike in only one colour – the one you see on these pages.
What’s big in the KTM 790 Duke?
The styling may not lead you to believe that this is the biggest KTM in the country. It looks and feels no bigger than the 390. That’s its USP. With a kerb weight of around 175kg, the KTM is one of the lightest in its class – Triumph Street Triple S, Suzuki GSX-S750 and Ducati Monster 821. The engine is a LC8 parallel twin, BS-IV compliant unit that puts out 105PS of power and 87Nm. It is mated to a 6-speed slipper clutch-enabled gearbox. There are multiple electronic nannies available with the motorcycle including riding modes, traction control, wheelie control, supermoto mode, cornering ABS as well as launch control. Twin discs at both ends with ABS is part of the package as well. The 790 Duke also boasts WP suspension on both ends, with the rear adjustable for pre-load.
The all-digital display packs in some serious information and one can also pair their phone with it through Bluetooth. Moreover, the unit is customisable too. The 790 Duke is a stop-gap arrangement and there is also the more powerful 890 Duke in the works. It was spotted testing recently and KTM India will bring it next year with BS-VI compliance and a bit more power as well as oomph. Now thats something which we can’t resist, eh!
