Contrary to reports that the KTM 790 Duke bookings have started way back in November 2018, a source close to KTM India has confirmed that this isn’t the case. KTM India does plan to bring in the 790 Duke but not immediately. Details have to be worked out on the cost as well as availability, at the moment. As it is, the motorcycle will be KTM’s first twin cylinder engine bike in the country. It is likely to be priced around the Rs 8 lakh mark.
I am interested, tell me more about the KTM 790 Duke
The KTM 790 Duke will be a naked motorcycle that will take on the established players like the Ducati Monster 797 and the Triumph Street Triple. This new 800cc engine produces 105PS of power and 86Nm of torque from its liquid cooled twin cylinder motor. The engine is mated to a 6-speed slipper clutch-aided transmission. With a kerb weight of less than 170kg, expect this motorcycle to be one hell of a performance machine. It is expected to amplify the frantic nature of the 390 Duke.
Equipment on board includes switchable ABS, cornering ABS, traction control and different riding modes. Dual disc brakes too have been given. A customisable TFT instrument cluster with Bluetooth pairing capability too is on offer.
When can I book the KTM 790 Duke
The 790 Duke can be booked closer to launch date i.e. March 2019. The source also confirmed that if any dealer is going to accept bookings now, then it is illegal. Moreover, the KTM 250 Duke ABS is still some time away. Bookings for the same too haven’t started yet. At the moment, the 125 as well as the 200 Duke are available with a single channel ABS while the 390 gets dual channel. The RC 200 still doesn’t get ABS while the RC 390 has a dual channel. The RC 200 will soon gain single channel ABS as well.
