KTM India is one of the fastest growing motorcycles brands. In the sub-500cc category, KTM rules the roost. However, the brand isn’t resting on its laurels. KTM CEO Stefan Pierer in his usual boisterous self told Speedweek magazine some interesting news. A KTM 500cc twin cylinder motorcycle is in the works. He said that this bike will be the Austrian maker’s weapon of choice in the 500cc segment. Pierer admitted that this is one area where KTM was lacking and with this new twin cylinder bike, things will be on course. The perceived premiumness of motorcycles is in the 500-800cc.
Details of the KTM 500cc twin cylinder motorcycle
The KTM 500cc twin cylinder motorcycle should have around 70PS of power. Not only do most of the KTM bikes make more power/torque than their competition in other segments, they are also more affordable. With these expected power numbers, the KTM 500cc twin cylinder motorcycle will compete with the Ducati Scrambler, Harley-Davidson Street 750 and the Kawasaki Ninja 650. The KTM 500cc twin cylinder motorcycle expected price in India will be around Rs 5.5 lakh.
KTM is also planning to bring in the 790 Adventure in India. It is rumoured that the motorcycle should be in showrooms by May 2019. The price should be Rs 7-8 lakh. Pierer also confirmed a Super Motor Touring motorcycle is also in the offing. While the body style of the KTM 500cc twin cylinder hasn’t been revealed yet, we expect it to be a Duke-like naked street fighter. Multiple offerings on the same engine are also expected in the near future. We believe this one will be made in India to minimise costs. It will have switchable dual-channel ABS too.
Since the motorcycle is still in development, expect it to be showcased at the upcoming EICMA 2019. Soon thereafter, the launch should happen. We can’t wait and bet even you can’t.
