Kia Seltos unveiled in India; launch in August

Kia India has officially unveiled their first new product for the market. The Kia Seltos SUV has been developed for the Indian market but will also be exported to Europe and other places. Kia Motors has a plant in Anantpur from where the SUV will be made. The vehicle goes on sale in August. Within the next two years, Kia will launch three more vehicles in the Indian market.

The Kia Seltos is a SUV that is designed in conjunction with the Indian as well as foreign design teams of the Korean carmaker. The vehicle was first showcased as the SP concept at the Auto Expo 2018. Kia designers have ensured that it stays true to the design language shown before. The vehicle is very attractive to look at and boasts a tiger grille, LED headlights, yellow DRLS, 17-inch alloys and LED taillights.

Inside, the Kia Seltos has a Bose sound system with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, head-up display, 360° camera, ventilated front seats, powered driver’s seat, front and rear parking sensors, sunroof, air purifier and automatic climate control with rear AC vents. The 5-seater also looks very spacious.

There are three engines on offer – two petrol and one diesel. A choice of 7-speed DCT, 6-speed manual and IVT, torque converter. Kia is offering its GT line in India with the Seltos. This includes a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine paired to the DCT. All these engines will be BS-VI compliant from the start.
Drivers can choose from ‘Normal’, ‘Eco’ and ‘Sport’ mode. The  Eco mode is tuned to maximise vehicle range by using fuel-saving measures, while Sport mode increases responses from the steering and electric motor to maximise the dynamic driving feel of the car. Normal mode provides a careful balance between the two. It also comes equipped with multiple grip controls. Drivers can choose from mud, wet and sand mode depending on road condition.

The Kia Seltos gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, HAC, VSM and is built on robust structure, which has high usage of advanced high strength steel (AHSS).

The Seltos competes with the Hyundai Creta, Mahindra XUV500, Tata Harrier and MG Hector.
