Yes, that headline isn’t half. Jawa Motorcycles have indeed named their new motorcycle as Jawa. This harks back to the heritage of the motorcycle company itself. The Jawa price in India is Rs 1.64 lakh and bookings have already started online. Available colours include maroon, black and grey. More than 105 dealers will be operational shortly across India with the first one coming up in December. The deliveries will begin from January 2019.
Tell me more about the Jawa
The Jawa resembles the motorcycle of the yore. This includes the excessive use of chrome, the ancient engine fins proudly proclaiming the brand name, the round headlight, the amber turn indicators and more. Some other design elements include the horn placed right below the headlamp, chrome mirrors, twin exhaust pipes, a well sculpted fuel tank as well as a long single piece seat.
Since we now live in 2018, this is going to be a new 4-stroke engine for the motorcycle. The engine shares its bore, stroke and capacity with the Mahindra Mojo. However, it has been tuned in Varese, Italy. Mahindra’s Moto3 team is claimed to have worked on this motor as well. The brief was to have abundance of torque as well as a throaty exhaust note. Jawa Motorcycles claims to have both. This claim, we will put to test when we have the motorcycle for a review. As far as numbers are concerned, the engine produces a healthy 27PS/28Nm from its 300cc heart. A 6-speed gearbox is teamed with this engine.
Since this is a modern machine, there is a front wheel ABS as the rear wheel gets a drum brake. The kick starter too has been ditched in place of the standard electric start option. The instrument cluster is a single pod unit that houses the analogue speedometer, odometer, twin tripmeters as well as a fuel gauge.
