Isuzu MU-X facelift spied testing in India; launch later this year

Isuzu Motors which set foot in India a few years ago has found its footing here with the D-Max pick-up trucks as well as the V-Cross lifestyle vehicle based on it. While there are only three offerings by the Japanese manufacturer in the country, the third one, the Isuzu MU-X 7- seater SUV never found much favour with the audience. It could be primarily because of the way it looks – old school. In the age of the Endeavor and the Fortuner, the MU-X was lacking a bit of flair. Perhaps, not anymore. Isuzu India has been carrying out tests on the facelifted version of the MU-X and the spy images are already out.

The facelifted Isuzu MU-X was spotted testing somewhere close to its Andhra Pradesh plant and will  be launched later this year in India. Primary changes include the restructured headlights that now are LED projector units complete with a LED DRL. The bumper as well as the grille are new. Isuzu has now added 18-inch alloy wheels to the equation and they carry a different design than the existing one too. At the rear, one can expect the LED lights, new roof mounted spoiler as well as a revised bumper.

Inside, the new Isuzu MU-X will get the same black upholstery as before, however, there will be the addition of an extra power socket in the front plus more ergonomically designed seats. A climate control airconditioning system, powered driver’s seat, touchscreen infotainment system (doesn’t support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) lots of storage space as well as roof mounted DVD screen are available in the new MU-X.

The Isuzu MU-X will be powered by a 3.0-litre turbodiesel that makes 174PS of power and 380Nm of torque. Power will be delivered to the front wheels or all the four wheels through a five speed automatic transmission. We expect Isuzu to have taken a look at lowering the NVH as well as increasing the fuel efficiency by a fair bit.

Isuzu offers the MU-X currently with two-wheel and four-wheel drive systems in India. The latter is a shift on the fly unit which uses a rotary dial. The current prices of the Isuzu MU-X are Rs 24.78 lakh for the 4×2 and Rs 26.74 lakh for the 4×4. Expect a slight price rise. Competition for the Isuzu MU-X will also come from the new Mahindra SUV which is based on the Rexton and the Honda CR-V.
