Indian Motorcycle has been quiet for sometime. After bringing in the Chief Vintage a few months back, everything was silent on this American company’s front. Then the new Indian FTR 1200S broke cover. There is good news for the Indian Motorcycle lovers in India now. The Indian FTR 1200S bookings have started in India, with the booking amount set at Rs 2 lakh. The Indian FTR 1200S price in India is Rs 14.99 lakh while the Race Replica is for Rs 15.49 lakh, ex-showroom, pan-India. The latter gets a different paint job as well as a trellis frame done in red. Deliveries of these motorcycles will start from April 2019.
What’s the Indian FTR 1200S?
The motorcycle is based on a flat tracker concept from the award-winning 750cc race bike. Traditionally, these motorcycles have an upright seating stance as well as easy to reach handlebars and controls. This is a far cry from the motorcycles that Indian Motorcycle so far has been marketing in India. The Indian FTR 1200S features a new 1203cc V-twin motor that is good for 120PS of power. While the FTR’s engine is generally inspired by the Scout, it is said that more than 80 per cent of the components are new. Not only this, the compression ratio too has been bumped up. A 6-axis inertial sensor as well as a 4.3-inch colour touchscreen system have been added. Along with this, there is also the selectable riding modes, Bosch stability control and dual channel ABS.
The FTR comes to India through the CBU route. Uniquely enough though, the Indian FTR 1200S doesn’t have any direct competition at the moment. It is also priced closer to other litre class superbikes. Few like the Hayabusa as well as the Ducati Supersport are priced lower or at par with this streetfighter motorcycle. It remains to be seen if the buying audience goes for a smaller machine or one with a bulbous fairing and mass appeal, at nearly the same price range.
