Hyundai, like other car makers, is planning on going the electric way. The company has a couple of fuel cell vehicles on offer and also recently showcased the Kona electric to the world. The latter is making its way down to India sometime next year. Expected Hyundai Kona electric price in India could be around Rs 25 lakh. However, now Hyundai has shown its Saga EV concept. The Hyundai Saga EV concept was on display at the Sao Paulo Motor Show 2018. It is said to preview the next-gen HB20 and HB20X hatchback designs.
What does the Hyundai Saga EV concept mean for India?
The Hyundai HB20 is built on the same platform as the Elite i20. This means the platform could be brought to India very easily. Once sales of the Kona electric set off, then the Hyundai Saga EV can also be brought here. As it is, Hyundai will bring the all-new Elite i20 sometime in 2020. The Saga EV coming at that time will not be a surprise. Be prepared for an Auto Expo unveil then.
Give us some numbers of the Hyundai Saga EV concept
The Hyundai Saga EV concept has a 204PS electric motor that derives its power from a 64 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Hyundai claims a range of 450km+ on a single charge. One can also fast charge the vehicle using a 100 kW fast charger. Up to 80 per cent of the charge can be achieved in just 54 minutes. The charging cable is neatly tucked into the left side of the bonnet.
In terms of dimensions, the Hyundai Saga EV concept measures 4,028mm in length, 1,794mm in width and 1,570mm in height. The vehicle is styled like a pseudo-crossover. It is likely that cameras may replace the conventional mirrors on this unit. The wheelbase of the Saga EV concept is 2,560mm. What is commendable is the ground clearance. It measures a massive 302mm. The Hyundai Saga EV concept was designed in North America with inputs from the Brazil subsidiary.
