Hyundai is readying a sub-4m SUV for the Indian market. As we all are aware, Hyundai had showcased the concept vehicle in 2016 and it was referred to as the Carlino. However, at that point of time, it was indeed mentioned that the Carlino concept will see the light of the day only in 2019. Now, the time has come. Hyundai India is doing trial runs of the SUV. The Hyundai QXi (its code name) was spotted testing in Maharashtra recently. It looks like the SUV could be on its way to the ARAI testing facility in Pune. Hyundai is expected to bring in the QXi in April 2019.
Hyundai QXi details
The new Hyundai QXi is a sub-4m SUV and is likely based on the Verna platform. The SUV has an upright stance and borrows design cues from the Creta as well as the Kona vehicles. The latter reference comes from the fog light which is placed quite close to the headlamp cluster. Moreover, the SUV could be running on 16-inch wheels something which it can share with the Creta. The segment leader, the Vitara Brezza runs on 16-inchers as well.
Cabin quality of the Hyundai QXi will be definitely the highlight. It should have all modern gadgets as well as ample amount of space. The QXi should also have a sunroof in the top trim. As far as engines are concerned, there will be a set of new powertrains employed. This will include the 115PS 1.5-litre CRDi as well as a 120PS 1.0-litre turbo petrol. Both these engines could be mated to a 6-speed manual. Given that Hyundai has tasted success with the AMT, it is likely that the QXi could be offered with one as well. For sure, the vehicle will be front wheel driven as well.
The upcoming Mahindra XUV300 as it is offers class leading safety and is feature rich too. It will be worth seeing how the Hyundai QXi stacks up against it. We expect the Hyundai QXi price in India to start from Rs 7 lakh and go all the way to Rs 10 lakh, ex-showroom.
