Hyundai is one busy carmaker. It is gearing up to launch its all-new compact car codenamed AH2 this October. However, before the launch of this new model, Korean manufacturer is already testing the Hyundai Carlino compact SUV in India. The Carlino was first showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and more recently at the 2018 show. It will compete with the Tata Nexon, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Ford EcoSport. The launch is expected sometime next year.
From the spy images that you see here, one can glean a few details of the Hyundai Carlino compact SUV. It gets a wide grille that is part of the cascading design from other Hyundai cars and SUVs. However, the headlights are a unique mix. They derive inspiration from the bigger Kona SUV that will come to India in 2019. The top section where usually one expects the headlights to be are just the DRLs. At the bottom are the projector headlights while the fog lamps are placed on the bumper. A silver skid plate in the front and back helps establish the vehicle as an SUV.
One can also notice the silver roof rails, 16-inch alloy wheels that resemble those on the Nexon and a stubby tail section. The belt line is also rising from front to rear direction. The rear fog lights are also placed on the lower section of the bumper.
Engines of the Hyundai Carlino compact SUV
Hyundai will be using all-new engines in the Carlino SUV. The 3-cylinder petrol motor will be a turbo-ed unit that makes 120PS of power and 171Nm of torque. It will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. There is also an in-house developed all-new 1.5-litre turbo diesel. It will pump out around 118PS and 250Nm. A 6-speed standard and automatic options will be available with this engine. Both the engines here will be BS-VI compliant.
