Honda Unicorn BS6 launched in India at Rs 93,593

Honda has launched its first 160cc motorcycle with a BS6 heart. As the headline will lead you to believe, the Honda Unicorn BS6 price in India is Rs 93,593, ex-showroom. This price is a whopping Rs 13,000 more than the BS-IV unit and 16k additional over the now-defunct 160 model. As we have seen with most Honda BS6 models, even this one too has got a slew of updates.

What’s new with the Honda Unicorn BS6?

For starters, the motorcycle has a longer wheelbase and also a higher ground clearance (+8mm) than before. Honda has also used the opportunity to give the motorcycle a 24mm longer seat. New tubeless tyres also have been developed in the process. These have a lower rolling resistance. Lest we forget, there is also a new engine start-stop button.

The engine is new but can also be called borrowed from the now-defunct Unicorn 160. This motor has a slightly higher 10:1 compression ratio. However, Honda hasn’t mentioned the power and torque numbers. We believe the new Honda Unicorn BS6 will make 13PS of power and 13.7Nm with fuel injection. A 5-speed gearbox is there too. A counter balancer too has been added to reduce vibrations at higher revs. Honda has used a needle bearing rocker to reduce friction losses.
There is no visual change and the same colour schemes continue too. The Honda Unicorn BS6 has got an HET graphic at the side and a smoked screen cowl. The instrument console has got a blue back light. This and there is the fuel injection indicator as well.

Like other BS6 offerings, even the Honda Unicorn has got a three year warranty as standard. An optional, additional, 3-year warranty takes the total tally to six. The Unicorn BS6 competition will come in the form of the new Bajaj Pulsar 150.

Presenting new Unicorn BSVI, Yadvinder Singh Guleria, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, “With the new advanced PGM-FI HET 160cc engine delivering more power, Unicorn BSVI will raise the bar for seamless refined performance along with the trust of Honda reliability”.
