Honda 2 Wheelers India has been off to a roaring start in our market with a bunch of new BS6 products. The pace has been great with more than a lakh plus of BS6 two-wheelers sold in the last couple of months. However, now HMSI is asking owners of the Honda Activa 125 BS6 to bring their vehicles in for a replacement service. One should note that this isn’t a recall as the same isn’t listed on SIAM’s website. According to the law, manufacturers are requested to notify SIAM if they are recalling their vehicles.
What parts are being replaced of the Honda Activa 125 BS6?
Honda says that this is going to be a 30 minute job and the customer will not have to pay anything for the same. The parts that the company personnel will scrutinise and replace (if necessary), include the oil gauge and cooling fan cover. At the same time, the customer’s ownership manual will also be updated. We believe that these parts that are being replaced aren’t necessarily going to affect the daily functioning of the scooter. It might be just that the Honda Activa 125 BS6 development engineers may have noticed unusual wear and tear of these parts and hence thought of replacing them with better ones.
To check whether your vehicle is affected, one can put the VIN or Vehicle Identification Number (printed on the RC and on vehicle papers) on the HMSI website. One can also find the VIN which is located on the lower side of the handlebar, right opposite the seat. It will start with ME4JF49…
The Honda Activa 125 BS6 comes with an air-cooled, silent start 125cc engine that makes 8.1PS of power and 10.3Nm of torque. Honda claims a 13 per cent increase in mileage. That’s a good thing but then performance too is claimed to be better than before. The scooter though costs more than Rs 1 lakh on-road in certain parts of India. This is with the BS6 update.
