Hero MotoCorp has started dispatching its Xtreme 200R motorcycle to dealerships. However, it is happening in a phased manner and looks like the north eastern states of India have already started receiving the first lot. Price of the Hero Xtreme 200R is Rs 88,000 ex-showroom, West Bengal. There is a single fully loaded variant complete with alloy wheels, ABS, disc brakes and electric start. While technically it competes with the Bajaj Pulsar 200NS and the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, based on the price it sits at least Rs 15,000 lower than its competitors. On the price front, it competes with the smaller 160s – the Bajaj Pulsar 160NS and the TVS Apache RTR 160. The Hero Xtreme 200R is the company’s first 200cc motorcycle and has been designed ground-up at Hero’s Jaipur CIT facility. There are five colours to choose from – Techno Blue, Panther Black with Force Silver, Sports Red, Black with Sports Red and Heavy Grey with Orange.
That being said, the bike looks familiar thanks to the Xtreme 150 silhouette being used. The face of the motorcycle houses two LED pilot lamps and a halogen headlight in the middle. The styling is sharper and compares more with the new Apache series instead of the more rounded design of the Pulsar NS range. There are disc brakes on both the ends with the front one hosting the ABS mechanism. This again is Hero’s first motorcycle to have ABS on it, albeit single channel.
The Hero Xtreme 200R’s engine is a 2-valve air cooled single-cylinder unit that makes 18.4PS of power and 17.1Nm of torque. The engine is fed fuel via a carburettor while the air filter is a viscous type. Hero has got telescopic front forks and a 7-step adjustable monoshock at the rear. The 17-inch alloys host 100/80 rubber in the front and 130/70 at the back. The fuel tank capacity is 12.5 litres whereas the motorcycle weighs 148kg.
It is likely that in a couple of weeks, other states too should start getting the Xtreme 200R.
