If you thought the Hero XPulse is a one-off kind bike, think again. World over, there are many other manufacturers that make such motorcycles. One such maker is Yamaha. Yamaha has launched its dual-sport low capacity ADV in the Thailand market. The Yamaha WR 155R is an Hero XPulse rival and was on sale before at the Indonesian market. Yamaha has priced the bike at Rs 2.48 lakh in Thailand. From what we hear, this motorcycle is being evaluated for the Indian market. Especially so because it shares its engine with the Yamaha R15 and MT-15, both locally made. As and when this comes to our market, it is likely that Bajaj as well as Honda will also have their rivals ready. While Honda already has the CRF150L available, Bajaj is yet to make one. TVS too has got a frame ready with its Dakar experience.
What are the specifications of the Yamaha WR 155R?
The Yamaha WR 155R motorcycle is a dual sport and is an easy experience for newbies to off-roading. Unlike the Hero XPulse that has a bit of rounded parts, this one has got only straight panels – a minimalist look. There are 41mm telescopic front forks as well as a pre-load adjustable 7-step monoshock rear suspension. Yamaha have given an all-digital instrument consol that sadly doesn’t support navigation. The handle-bar is a flat piece while the headlamps are halogen, like the now-defunct Impulse. The fuel-tank capacity is only 8.1-litres. For off-roading, the Yamaha WR 155R has been given a 245mm ground clearance, engine bash plate, 21-inch knobby front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels.
As far as the engine is concerned, the 155cc, single-cylinder, VVA, oil-cooled motor makes 16.7PS of power and 14.3Nm of torque. Surprisingly, the gearbox is a 6-speed unit. This shows the bike has got highway legs too, unlike the XPulse 200. Are you eagerly waiting for this bike?
