Hero MotoCorp is quietly updating its products ahead of the April 1, 2019 deadline. After the HF Deluxe with IBS and i3S was introduced a few weeks earlier, the best selling Hero Splendor+ has been launched with the aforementioned technologies. The Hero Splendor + i3S and IBS model price in India is Rs 54,050, ex-Mumbai. Hero also sells the kickstart, non IBS as well as non i3S model for Rs 50,860 while the next model is the one sans i3S for Rs 2,000 more. One also gets an electric start with this latter model. We spoke with a few Hero dealers and they said that one can book the motorcycle straightaway however, deliveries will take sometime as the bikes are yet to reach dealerships.
Hero Splendor+ i3S and IBS specifications
Let’s talk about the mechanical changes first. The i3S technology means the addition of a blue button on the right side of the handlebar as well as an indicator on the meter console. i3S in short will cut off the engine if the motorcycle is in neutral for more than five seconds. Once the traffic light turns green or the traffic has eased, the rider has to just pull in the clutch for the bike to restart. This amounts to a fuel saving of five per cent and also reduces pollution. Speaking of which, the Splendor+ still boasts a 97.2cc single cylinder air-cooled engine that produces 8.36PS/8.05Nm. The engine is mated to a 4-speed gearbox.
The IBS technology is more of a government mandate and was first utilised in the Hero Pleasure scooter. This one links the rear brake to the front and when the former is applied, the latter also comes in to play. This ensures lesser braking distances and a more stable demeanor. More and more Hero products in the near future are expected to come with both these tech features.
