After much deliberation and getting the clearance ahead of arch rival Honda, Hero has now launched its BS-VI Splendor. The Hero Splendor BS-VI price in India is Rs 64,900, an increase of Rs 8,000 over the regular model. The vehicle goes on sale today and deliveries start in a few weeks.
What’s new with the Hero Splendor BS-VI?
For starters let’s talk about what’s not. The design theme is inspired from the i-Smart model. Even the blue colour scheme is. The Hero Splendor BS-VI has a new 113.2cc engine that boasts a 9.7:1 compression ratio and produces 9PS/9.89Nm. This engine is fed via a 6-sensor fuel injection system. The gearbox is still a 4-speed unit. There are no claimed fuel economy numbers though we expect it to deliver closer to 70kmpl. Hero says that the Sulphur emissions are down by 80 per cent while there is 10 per cent more torque too. Hero has also got its i3s system in place.
The instrument console of the bike is semi-digital and also shows the temperature of the engine. The chassis is new and the front suspension has 120mm travel. Twin rear shocks have been provided. The ground clearance is 180mm. Braking is via a 240mm front disc and a 130mm rear drum. There is also CBS and one single trim. One can start the motorcycle through kick or electric start. Hero has provided 18-inch tubeless tyres at both ends. The seat height is 799mm.
The Hero Splendor BS-VI will compete with the Honda Livo and TVS Star City. However both its competitors are still BS-IV.
