Hyundai is all set to launch its much talked about electric SUV Kona in India on 9th July. As we gear up for the launch, here are some details you need to know about the upcoming SUV.

Hyundai KONA Electric
  1. India’s first pure electric SUV
Hyundai Kona will be India’s first pure electric SUV to be sold. Many manufacturers have promised and planned to launch their electric vehicles in India but while they are still preparing for it, Hyundai will officially launch the Kona SUV for sale. We already have conformation about the launch of the Audi e-Tron and MG eZS electric SUV, while the wait for the Jaguar I-Pace doesn’t seem to come to an end anytime soon.

  2. Will be manufactured in India
Hyundai will manufacture the Kona EV locally in India. It will help the company to keep the costs down and avoid the heavy duties on imported cars. This all will eventually help Hyundai to keep the prices of Kona competitive in the market.

  3. Battery and capacity
In the International markets, Kona comes with two variants. The 39.2 kWh variant produces 136 hp and 395 Nm of torque and can travel up to 312 km in a single charge. The more powerful 64.0 kWh variant makes 204 hp and 395 Nm of torque and covers a distance of up to 482 km in a single charge. Hyundai hasn’t yet confirmed which variant would be launched in India.

  4. Charging time
Hyundai has released a video where it claims that the Kona’s charging time is similar to a smartphone’s charging time. However, you need to connect it to a DC fast charger for that speed. With a normal AC charger, it would take a few hours to get fully charged.

  5. Pricing in India
Hyundai Kona is expected to be priced around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. Though there are so many SUVs in that range, there is no direct competitor to Kona when it comes to the powertrain.
